Making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
 About the Pastor

Hello, friends.  I am Trevor Smith, the senior pastor here at First United Methodist Church in Sallisaw.  I am so glad that you are interested in learning more about our church, and I wanted to share a little bit about my life and what has brought me to be in ministry with the wonderful people of First United Methodist Church in Sallisaw.

I grew up in Oklahoma City.  My wife, Allyson, and I have been married since 2008.  We welcomed our first child, Charlotte, into our family just three weeks before we moved to Sallisaw in June of 2010.
Allyson and I met while I was serving as the pastor of First United Methodist Church in Waurika and First United Methodist Church in Temple, and while Allyson was working as a pharmaceutical salesperson in Duncan.

I first felt God calling me to the work of ordained ministry when I was 15 years old while I was attending District Church Camp at Canyon Camp.  That week changed my life forever, as God has led me on a great journey in Ministry.  After graduating from Putnam City North High School, I double majored in History and Religion at Oklahoma City University where I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree at the top of my class in 1997.  Then I earned a Master of Divinity degree at Duke Divinity School in 2000.

I was commissioned as a probationary elder in 2000, and was ordained as an elder in full connection in the Oklahoma Conference in 2003.  Since 2000, I have served as an associate pastor at First United Methodist Church  in Claremore, as an associate pastor at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church in Norman, and as the pastor of First United Methodist Church in Waurika and First United Methodist Church in Temple.

In 2008 I earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University.  My Doctor of Ministry project focused on year-round stewardship in the church.  Throughout my ministry I have enjoyed leading churches to do mission work in Rio Bravo, Mexico, and mission work in towns all over Oklahoma through Youth Force.

I have to say that it is a privilege and a blessing to serve as the pastor of this outstanding church.  I believe that God has a plan for our lives and that our church family is a great place for anyone to experience the grace and love of Jesus Christ and to grow as one of his disciples.  I invite you to join us for worship or any of our gatherings.  There's a place for U in our CH_RCH!

          Blessings,
          Dr. Trevor Smith
          Senior Pastor
